GORDON. SO IS THE LEADER. BENNY: HATS ON THE TO MILLER GENUINE PIT CREW FOR A JOB WELL DONE. PICKED UP A COUPLE OF SECONDS. THAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING FIRST AND BEING BEHIND THE 24 CAR OF JEFF GORDON. BOB: GORDON TRYING TO GO TO THE INSIDE. HUT STRICKLAND, HE’S RUNNING NINTH, A LAP DOWN. THERE ARE EIGHT CARS ON THE LEAD. BOB: HERE’S THIRD PLACE. MARK MARTIN, THE POLE SITTER. ELIGIBLE FOR $121,600 IN BONUS MONEY. LOOKING FOR DALE EARNHARDT, THERE HE S FOURTH PLACE CAR. BOB: NOW WE WILL LOOK FOR THE FIFTH PLACE CAR WHICH HAPPENS TO BE CAR NUMBER FIVE. DRIVEN BY TERRY LABONTE. NED: HIS BROTHER, BOBBY LABONTE, AS YOU CAN SEE, IS IN SIXTH SPOT. RICK MAST IS SEVENTH. BOB: TWO-SECOND SEPARATION BETWEEN RUSTY AND JEFF. FIRST AND SECOND. NED: THERE’S THE 18 CAR. SIXTH PLACE CAR AT THIS■■ TIME F THE RACE. INTERSTATE BATTERY CHEVROLET. BEST FINISH OF 1996 AT DARLINGTON LAST WEEK. WHERE HE CAME IN RUNNER-UP AFTER LAST LAP SCRAMBLING BECAUSE OF FUEL. I WOULD IMAGINE AS LONG AS THIS CAR CONTINUES TO PERFORM AS WELL AS IT HAS FOR RICK MAST, HE NO LONGER HAS THE FLU. IS THAT CORRECT? BENNY: HE STILL HAS THE FLU. HE DOESN’T ACT LIKE IT. BOB: HERE’S JOHN KERNAN WITH MORE ON THAT. JOHN: I WAS TALKING WITH RICK THIS MORNING. HE SAID HE FELT MUCH BETTER TODAY. HE SAID HE WOULD GET IN THE CAR ASK DRIVE FOR AS LONG AS HE COULD AND WHENEVER HE FELT HE COULDN’T GIVE THE CAR A GOOD RIDE, HE WOULD GET OUT. THE CAR’S NOT EXACTLY PERFECT, THE GAY RICK WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT. BUT IT’S GOOD ENOUGH TO WHERE RICK IS ENJOYING HIMSELF DESPITE THE FACT HE FEELS PRETTY SICK STILL. BOB: DICK TRICKLE WENT A LAP DOWN. THERE ARE NOW SEVEN CARS ON THE LEAD LAP. THE NEXT ONE TO GO A LAP WOULD BE RICK MAST. BOB: JEFF GORDON LED 205 LAPS OF THIS 500 LAP IN WINNING LAST YEAR. HE HAS LED OVER 100 OF THE FIRST 234 IN THIS ONE. BUT RIGHT NOW RUSTY WALLACE IS THE MAN OUT FRONT. BENNY: DALE JARRETT IS A LAP DOWN. NED: HE’S GAINING ON RUSTY RIGHT NOW. HE PULLED AWAY FIVE CAR LENGTHS . HE HAS DICK TRICKLE TO RACE FOR. BOTH OF THEM A LAP DOWN. BENNY: DALE JARRETT STARTED DEAD LAST. WORKED HIS WAY UP TO THE NINETH SPOT. WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF A LOT OF COST — WE HAVE BEEN RACING FOR QUITE SOME TIME WITHOUT A CAUTION FLAG. NED: WE HAVE RUN ALMOST 100 LAPS. BOB: WE ARE REAL CLOSE TO THE HALF WAY POINT OF THIS RACE. THERE IS TRICKLE GOING UP THE BANKING AND BOTH JARRETT AND GORDON SLIP BY UNDERNEATH. BENNY: IN THAT LAP, RUSTY PULLED AWAY. NOW RUSTY HAS BEEN ABLE TO PULL AWAY A LITTLE BIT TO 1.5 SECONDS. BOB: RUSTY IS WITHOUT DOUBT THE KING OF THE SHORT TRACKS. NED: HE HAS A FABU■OUS RECORD ON THE SHORT TRACKS. HIS AVERAGE IS THREE OR SOMETHING. BOB: RUSTY WALLACE LEADS. JEFF GORDON RUNNING SECOND. BOB: RUSTY WALLACE IS THE LEADER OF THE FOOD CITY 500. THERE ARE SIX CARS ON THE LEAD LAP. JEFF GORDON RUNNING SECOND. MARK MARTIN, DALE EARNHARDT, TERRY LABONTE, AND BOBBY LABONTE. LOOK AT JEFF GORDON AND RUSTY WALLACE’S LAPS HERE. BENNY: RUSTY WALLACE COMES OFF THE CORNER. THERE IS ONE MORE LAP TO HALFWAY. BOB: THAT INFORMATION OF COURSE, AUTO ZONE ONTRACK INTERVAL. WE’RE LOOKING FOR THE CROSSED FLAGS INDICATING WE HAVE REACHED THE HALFWAY POINT OF THIS RACE. THERE THEY ARE. BENNY: YEAH. NED: A LITTLE BIT LATE. THE LEADER DIDN’T GET THEM, EVERYBODY ELSE DID. BENNY: YEAH, THEY MISSED THEM. BOB: WE ARE AT 250, A SITUATION WHERE WE WON’T COME BACK TOMORROW IF IT DOES RAIN. I DON’T THINK THERE IS REALLY RAIN THAT CLOSE TO US. ONE REASON EVERYBODY WANTS TO GET THIS RACE IN TODAY, IN ADDITION TO THE SPECTATORS, RUSTY WALLACE AND DALE EARNHARDT AND NASCAR OFFICIALS ARE HEADED FOR JAPAN. BENNY: 8:00 IN THE MORNING THEY GO TO JAPAN FOR AN TIRE TEST. NED: AWFULLY TIRING PHYSICALLY AT THIS RACETRACK AND MENTALLY, GIFT GUYS A CHANCE TO REST, WHILE THAT’S A LONG RIDE. BOB: 12- 14-HOUR FLIGHT. BENNY: $10,000. BOB: POCKET CHANGE FOR YOU, B.P.? BENNY: RUSTY. MAY BE POCKET CHANGE FOR RUSTY. THERE WERE ONLY A FEW TIMES IN MY CAREER WHEN I WON THAT MUCH FOR WINNING A RACE. BOB: KYLE PETTY JUST GOT AROUND THE 99 CAR AND PUT KYLE IN 14TH POSITION HE IS A LAP DOWN, HOWEVER. BENNY: TRYING HIS BEST TO GET PAST GEOFF BODINE. BOB: STARTED 34TH. HE’S DOING RATHER WELL HERE ON THE 14TH. NED: KYLE HAVING ONE OF HIS BEST RUNS OF THE YEAR. BENNY: WHEN HE RAN INTO THE TIRE ON STEVE GRISSOM’S CAR, HAVEN’T SEEN HIM ANYMORE. BOB: IT’S GOT A MARK ON IT, OR HAD ONE. BENNY: LOOKS LIKE HE’S ON THE INSIDE OF, NO, DIDN’T QUITE MAKE IT. AND ONCE AGAIN THE BATTLE FOR POSITION. IN 14TH POSITION AS A MATTER OF FACT. THERE WE SEE THE FIVE CAR OF TERRY LABONTE WHO IS CURRENTLY RUNNING FIFTH AND DRIVEN UP BEHIND THESE CARS AND TRYING TO GET BY THEM. MIGHT BE A LOT EASIER SAID THAN DONE. NED: THAT’S A LOT OF CARS THERE THAT ARE RUNNING A PRETTY GOOD CLIP AROUND HERE. AND OF COURSE, THEY’RE BATTLING FOR POSITIONS. BENNY: THEY CALLED JIMMY SPENCER WHO IS IN 13TH SPOT. NED: WENT TWO LAPS DOWN. BOB: TED MUSGRAVE THREE LAPS DOWN IN THE FAMILY CHANNEL FORD. NED: SPONSORED BY Q.V.C. ON THE HOOD OF THE AUTOMOBILE. BENNY: KYLE DROVE UP TIGHT THERE, DIDN’T HE? NED: SURE DID. TRYING TO PUT THE BRAKES ON. BENNY: ON THE INSIDE, I THINK. NED NE JUST COULDN’T GET THE TRACTION OFF THE CORNER. HE HAD IT BUT JUST COULDN’T GET THE TRACTION HE NEEDED. BOB: INTERVAL BETWEEN FIRST AND FOURTH IS 6.3 SECONDS. BETWEEN RUSTY WALLACE AND DALE EARNHARDT IN FOURTH. BOB: BEST FINISH THIS YEAR WAS 11TH AT ROCKINGHAM. NOW IN 14TH. AND STILL JUST RIGHT BEHIND GEOFF BODINE BUT CAN’T FIND THE OPPORTUNITY TO PASS. BENNY: LET’S SEE HOW MUCH TIME THERE IS IN THE STRAIGHTAWAY AT THE BRISTOL RACEWAY. WHEN WE GET IN THE FRONTSTRETCH WE’LL TRY TO COUNT AND SEE HOW MUCH TIME THE DRIVERS HAVE TO RELAX AND WE’LL SEE, 1,000-ONE, 1,000-TWO. ALMOST TWO SECONDS THEY’RE ABLE TO RELAX. 16 SECONDS IT TAKES TO GET AROUND THE RACETRACK. >>NO PROBLEM ON THE BOTTOM. BENNY: THAT WAS NO PROBLEM ON THE BOTTOM, THE 43 CAR. >>CLEAR. BOB: NOW 200 LAPS UNDER GREEN, THAT’S THE LEAST OF THE PHYSICAL PROBLEMS CREATED BY THE RACETRACK, WHEN YOU GO INTO THE BANKING YOUR HEAD WEIGHS A TON. BENNY: I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY G.’S YOU PULL GOING INTO THE CORNER, IT IS CONSIDERABLE, WHATEVER IT IS IF YOUR HEAD WEIGHS 16 POUNDS, YOU PULL FIVE G.’S I GUESS IT’S WEIGHING 60 POUNDS. NED: YOU HAVE SO MUCH FORCE, PUSHING DOWN ON YOUR BODY. BOB: THERE IS JEFF GORDON RUNNING IN SECOND SPOT. THERE IS THE INTERVAL BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND, IT LOOKS LIKE JEFF IS CLOSING THE GAP. NED: YEAH, HE IS, PASSED DALE JARRETT AND IS PULLING AWAY FROM HIM. BOB: WE’LL TAKE ANOTHER BREAK. BOB: BACK TO BRISTOL, THE FOOD CITY 500, 274 LAPS COMPLETED NOW AND THE LEADER IS RUSTY WALLACE. WE’RE WATCHING FROM THE ROOF CAM OF KENNY SCHRADER WHO GOT KNOCKED AROUND LIKE A HOCKEY PUCK EARLIER IN THE RACE. SPEAKING OF HOCKEY, LIKE THAT TRANSITION. BENNY: IF YOU’RE A WRESTLING FAN, HOCKEY FAN, WHAT SPORT DON’T YOU LIKE? BOB: THERE ARE VERY FEW THAT I DON’T LIKE. RACING IS AT THE TOP. BUT IT’S CLOSE BETWEEN THE TWO YOU JUST MENTIONED. NED: BOBBY LABONTE IN FRONT OF RUSTY WALLACE, ABOUT TO GO A LAP DOWN, LABONTE IN THE SIXTH POSITION. BENNY: LOOK AT RUSTY STEERING THAT THING AS HE COMES OFF THE CORNER. BOB: FIGHTING HER A LITTLE. NED: BEEN OUT THERE A WHILE ON THE TIRES, BEGINNING TO SLIP AROUND A LITTLE BIT. BOB: RUSTY HAS LED 57 LAPS, STARTED 11TH, CURRENTLY FIRST, BEEN AS LOW AS 15TH ACTUALLY ON LAP 205. BENNY: WE CAN SEE JEFF GORDON IS 1.21 SECONDS BEHIND THE LEADER RUSTY WALLACE. NED: RUSTY HAS HEAVY, HEAVY TRAFFIC. NOT ONLY BOBBY LABONTE, RICKY CRAVEN UP THERE, JOE NEMECHEK, A LONG LIST OF CARS. BENNY: ABOUT 1/3 OF THE FIELD IS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF RUSTY WALLACE. BOB: JOHN KERNAN? JOHN: THIS IS AN UNSCHEDULED PIT FOR JEFF BURTON. A COUPLE LAPS AGO FELT LIKE HE HAD A TIRE GOING DOWN. RATHER THAN STAY OUT THERE, POSSIBLY STICK IT IN THE WALL THEY’VE COME IN AND WITH A LITTLE EXTRA TIME ON THE TIRES, JEFF BURTON IS DOWN AND AWAY. BOB: KEEPING IT UNDER 35 MILES AN HOUR UNTIL HE CLEARS THE PIT AND STANDS ON THE GAS. BENNY: RUSTY AGAIN IS JUST MIRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. HE WAS ABLE TO GET BY BOBBY LABONTE. BOB: BUT NOW HE HAS RICKY CRAVEN AND STEVE GRISSOM AHEAD OF HIM AS GORDON CONTINUES TO CLOSE IN. NED: RICKY CRAVEN IS ONE LAP DOWN IN 16TH POSITION. BOB: THERE’S DALE EARNHARDT. HAD’S ALSO ON THE MOVE. HE’S IN THIRD. BOB: NOW WE WILL START TRACKING IT ON THE PYLON. DOWN TO 4.1. NED: RUSTY WALLACE, ONCE AGAIN, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. BOB: NOW ONLY ABOUT A CAR LENGTH AND A HALF SEPARATE FIRST AND SECOND. JEFF DRIVES RIGHT UP THE BACK BUMPER NOW. NED: 41 CAR, RICKY CRAVEN IS ONE LAP DOWN. DESPERATELY WANTS TO STAY IN FRONT OF THE LEADER, IF HE CAN. BOB: HE’S IN 16TH POSITION. RUSTY IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO PASS HIM NOW. LETES SEE IF JEFF COMES ALONG. SURE HE WILL. YEAH. HERE’S STEVE GRISSOM. RIGHT IN FRONT OF JEFF GORDON. HE TRIED TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. ALMOST LOST IT. NOW RUSTY WALLACE,MUSGRAVE AND SPENCER UP AHEAD. NED: SPENCER IS JUST ONE LAP DOWN AND IN 15TH POSITION. NIP■ MUSGRAVE PULLED ASIDE AND LEFT BOTH RUSTY AND JEFF PASS BY. NED: CHECKING THE INTERVAL BETWEEN RUSTY ALL AS, LEADER OF THE CAR, AND DALE EARNHARDT, THIRD PLACE CAR, NUMBER THREE. AND NOW WE SEE EARNHARDT IS IN SOME TRAFFIC. HEAVE HELD UP BY KEN SCHRAEDER. BOB: ALL DEPENDS ON TRAFFIC. WHERE YOU CATCH PHOTOGRAPH AND HOW MUCH YOU HAVE TO PUT UP WITH TRAFFIC WHILE YOU ARE IING TO MOVE TO THE FRONT. NED: THE NEXT CAR THAT’S ONE LAP DOWN AND ABOUT TO GO TWO IS GEOFF BODINE. SHE’S RIGHT IN FRONT OF RUSTY WALLACE. BOB: WE HAVE COMPLETED ALMOST 300 LAPS. COMING UP ON THE 300 LAP. 293. BENNY: YEF GORDON IS THERE. HE’S THERE, HOPING RUSTY WILL SLIP. NED: GORDON IS DRIVING A SMOOF RACE. HE’S BACKING OFF WHEN THINGS GET JUMPY IN FRONT OF HIM. BOB: UP AHEAD OF RUSTY, GEOFF BODINE IS HAVING HIS PROBLEMS. NED: RUSTY OVER AND SAYS OK, GO AHEAD. YOU GO UP THERE AND FIGHT THOSE GUYS FOR A WHILE. NED: PRESSLEY IS BACK IN 21ST POSITION. NED: WE SEE WHAT JEFF GORDON CAN DO WITH GEOFF BODINE. SO FAR, NOTHING. BOB: JEFF IS KEEPING HIM AT BAY AT THE MOMENT. AND SO IT IS JEFF GORDON WHO HAS GONE BACK INTO THE LEAD. RUSTY WALLACE, BACK TO SECOND. BOB: BOB JENKINS, BENNY PARSONS, JAIR NED JARRETT, JERRY PUNCH, JOHN KERNAN, BACK AT FOOD CITY 500. BEING LED BY NUMBER 24 OF JEFF GORDON. RUNNING SECOND, TWO NUMBER MILLER FORD, DRIVEN BY RUSTY WALLACE. NOW WE HAVE A PRETTY GOOD BATTLE SHOOTING UP FOR THIRD PLACE BETWEEN DALE EARNHARDT, NUMBER THREE UP AHEAD, AND MARK MARTIN, WITH THE ROOF CAM. BENNY: EARNHARDT GOT CAUGHT UP IN ALL OF THAT TRAFFIC WITH THE LEADERS. TRYING TO MOVE ON INSIDE OF PRESSLEY. PRESSLEY IS STANDING ON THE GROOVE ON THE INSIDE. EARNHARDT GETS BY. MARK MARTIN COMES UP THERE NOW. BOB: LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE HOOKED TOGETHER. BENNY: WE HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF CAUTION FLAGS. STILL OUR AVERAGE SPEED IS A RECORD. BOB: THE RECORD IS HELD AT 101.074. WE ARE ABOVE THAT. WE ARE LOOKING FORING THE FIVE CAR. THE FIFTH PLACE, TERRY LABONTE. BENNY: THERE HE IS. JUST IN FRONT OF THE LEADER. THAT’S NOT GOOD. NED: BOB HAS BEEN RUNNING 10TH . NED: RUSTY HAS BEEN OUT THERE 113 LAPS. BOB: WE ARE NOT SEEING VERY GOOD MOVES ON MARTIN’S ROOF CAM. MOISTURE. BENNY: A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN. THEY ARE HAVING ENOUGH TROUBLE SLIPPING AND SLIDING AROUND OUT THERE AS IT IS. THEY DON’T NEED ANY RAIN. NED: WE CAN SEE JUST A FEW DROPS. LET’S CLEAR THE LENS AND SEE HOW QUICKLY IT ACCUMULATES HERE. BENNY: THAT’S NOT BAD. BOB: THE SKIES DON’T LOOK ALL THAT BAD T CLOUDS SEEM TO BE BROKEN. I DON’T THINK IT IS A SITUATION WHERE IT IS GOING TO START RAINING AND RAIN FOR — NED: YOU WEREN’T BORN IN THE MOUNTAINS. IT IS GOING TO BE RAINING IN FIVE MINUTES. BOB: IT IS RAINING RIGHT NOW. NED: YOU COME ACROSS THE HILL THERE, THERE’S THE SHOWER. BOB: JERRY, WHAT DO YOU? HELP ME. JERRY: THE BAD NEWS IS I WANT TO ACT — IT IS STARTING TO RAIN. WE ARE GETTING RAINDROPS ON SOME OF THE WINDOWS. THEY EXPECT A PIT AROUND LAP 350 TO 360. THAT SHOULD BE THEIR FINAL SCHEDULED PIT STOP. OF COURSE WITH THE RAIN STARTING TO COME DOWN, YOU SEE RAIN NOW MOSTLY ON THE CAR. JUMPING ON THE RACETRACK. AND GORDON IS COMPLAINING THE CAR IS GETTING LOOSE OUT THERE. RAY IS COMPLAINING THAT BIT INFORM THE NASCAR OFFICIAL. BENNY: YELLOW? NED: THE YELLOW FLAG IS COMING OUT RIGHT NOW. BOB: CAUTION OUT BECAUSE OF RAIN. BENNY: I DON’T BELIEVE THE LEADER TOOK THE CAUTION. BOB: BILL ELLIOTT SPINS. NED: AS HE CAME AROUND HE MIGHT NOT HAVE GONE INTO THE WALL TOO HARD. BOB: HERE COMES ELLIOTT WITH SOME DAMAGE ON THE NOSE. NED: NOSE OF THE CAR DID GET IN THE WALL, THIS IS BECAUSE OF RAIN, CAN YOU SEE THE RAIN COMING DOWN? BOB: YEAH, I CAN SEE IT NOW. NED: NOT TOO HAPPY, PULLING UP THERE TO THE 99 CAR, HE’S NOT TOO HAPPY. HE’S GOING TO — BOB: A FEW WORDS. BENNY: JUST WANT TO TELL MR. BURTON HE WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. BOB: HERE’S THE REPLAY FROM MICHAEL WALTRIP’S ROOF CAM. NED: THERE YOU SEE. MADE CONTACT, BURTON ON THE INSIDE. BURTON BACKED OFF. BOB: SO THE PACE CAR COMES OUT. SLOWING THE PACE BECAUSE IT IS RAINING. RAINING PRETTY GOOD RIGHT NOW. TRACK’S GETTING WET. MENTION ANY NAMES. LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE NAPA FIELD SUMMARY, TERRY LABONTE ON PIT ROAD. NED: THE RED FLAG IS OUT. I WONDER IF HE IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO COME LEET THE PIT STOP. MAYBE HE CAME IN — I WONDER IF HE IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE PIT STOP. BENNY: TERRY LABONTE COULD, IN FACT, BE THE LEADER. GOOD STRATEGY. JERRY? JERRY: THAT WAS A SLICK MOVE ON YOUR PART COMING IN AND MAKING A QUICK PIT STOP BEFORE THE RED CAME OUT. >>WE DECIDED TO MAKE A PIT STOP AND DO TWO TIRES AND THEN TRY TO MAKE■ UP SOME, THE PACE CAR, DO TWO TIRES, COME BACK IN AND DO TWO MORE. WHEN WE CAME ON PIT ROAD THEY RED FLAGGED IT. JERRY: I SAW THE NASCAR OFFICIAL TALKING TO YOU WE WERE WONDERING IF THE RED FLAG WAS GOING TO COME OUT AND IF THEY WOULD LET YOU COMPLETE, YOU WERE NEGOTIATING DOWN HERE? >>WE DIDN’T KNOW IT WAS A RED FLAG UNTIL IT WAS ON PIT ROAD. WE ALREADY COMMITTED. I DON’T THINK THEY WILL DO ANYTHING. JERRY: THEY HAVE TWO FRESH TIRES. MAKING THE CALL, THEY WOULD LIKE TO COME IN AND GET TWO MORE, TWO MORE FRESH TIRES THAN ANYBODY ELSE OUT THERE, PRETTY GOOD MOVE ON THE KELLOGG’S TEAMS. BOB: THE STARP IS COMING OUT ON THE BACK STRETCH AS THE SHOWER PASSING OVER THE RACETRACK. NOT A A A NED: AND THE SIGNAL HAS BEEN GIVEN. THEY’LL GET THE GREEN FLAG THE N THE GHS OFF ATOP OF THE PACE CAR. BOB: SO FAR WE HAVE HAD SEVEN LEADERS AND SEVEN LEAD CHANGES. GORDON, WALLACE, ELLIOTT, SKIRN, RUDD, AND LABONTE HAVE ALL GAINED FIVE POINTS BY LEADING A LAP AND SO FAR JEFF GORDON HAS LED THE MOST AND HE IS AT THE FRONT OF THE FIELD RIGHT NOW AS THE GREEN COMES OUT. BACK TO RACING. BENNY: FIVE CARS IN THE LEAD LAP. BOB: ROBERT PRESSLEY TRYING TO GET ONE, MORE THAN THREE LAPS DOWN. BENNY: RICKY CRAVEN, DALE JARRETT, HERE COMES TERRY LABONTE, A BATTLE FOR SECOND SPOT. BOB: LABONTE SLID TO THE INSIDE OF RUSTY, NOW HERE COMES MARK MARTIN TO TAKE OVER THAT THIRD SPOT. SO RUSTY IS HUNG OUT AT THE MOMENT. NED: GOING TO DROP ALL THE WAY BACK TO FIFTH PLACE. THAT’S AS FAR BACK AS HE CAN DROP. BOBBY LABONTE IS GOING TO LET HIM IN. AND YOU’VE GOT A SPIN. BENNY: DARRELL WALTRIP SOME HEAVY DAMAGE TO THE BACK OF THE WESTERN AUTO CHEVROLET. NED: BREAK FOR DALE JARRETT, RICKY CRAVEN CAN GET ONE OF HIS, THAT CAR IS SITTING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRACK. WOW, DARRELL WALTRIP HAS HIT THAT WALL. BOB: SURE DID, THE BACK END OF THAT CAR IS. BENNY: DARRELL DON’T GO ANYPLACE THAT LOOKS LIKE GASOLINE. NED: I CAN’T BELIEVE THE CAR WOULD MOVE. HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW MUCH DAMAGE IS DONE TO THE BACK OF THE CAR. BENNY: LOOKS LIKE GASOLINE ON THE BACK OF THE RACETRACK, I WOULDN’T WANT DARRELL TO DRAG ACROSS THERE AND SPARK. SOMEBODY TELL HIM. BENNY: I’M SURE THE CREW HAS TOLD HIM TO TURN IT OFF. NED: WHAT A TOUGH BREAK. BOB: THAT IS A TOUGH BREAK FOR DARRELL. AND SO MUCH OPTIMISM GOING IN. SO DALE JARRETT NOW COMES CLEAR AROUND THE RACETRACK. AND IS BACK ON THE LEAD LAP IN SIXTH PLACE. BENNY: THREE CARS MADE UP THE LAP, ROBERT PRESSLEY, RICKY CRAVEN AND DALE JARRETT. WE HAVE A RED FLAG CONDITION RIGHT NOW. BOB: YEAH, THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE DOWN THERE ON THE RACETRACK. AND LET’S — LET’S JUST GET THAT CLEANED UP AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. JERRY? JERRY: YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT CUTTING IT OFF. PETER: ER SON HERE IN THE PITS HAD TOLD DARRELL, YOU GUYS WERE TELLING DARRELL TO CUT IT OFF BECAUSE OF THE FUEL COMING OUT OF THE BACK. >>MUST HAVE BUSTED THE NECK OR SOMETHING. AND LET THE FUEL SPILL OUT. I DON’T THINK HE KNEW THAT. HEAVE TRYING TO GET GOING. THAT’S ALL. JERRY: DID HE SAY WHAT HAPPENED UP THERE, PETE? >>HE HASN’T SAID ANYTHING. GYP THAT’S PETER: ER SON AND THE CREW. THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE THEIR WAY OVER TO D.W. TELL HIM TO CUT IT OFF. CUT IT OFF. D.W. MEDLEY DID. BOB: WE HAVE BEEN CONCERNED WITH MOISTURE ON THE TRACK ALL DAY. THEY ARE PUTTING MOUSE TOUR DOWN ON IT TO DILUTE THE FUEL THAT CAME OUT OF THAT CAR. THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD SITUATION. NED: DARRELL IS NOT HAPPY WITH THIS SITUATION. HE HAD A GREAT RUN GOING HERE. I BELIEVE HE’S CONCERNED ABOUT SOMEBODY THAT MAYBE GOT INTO HIM. BOB: HE WAS IN 11TH POSITION WHEN THIS THING OCCURRED. THERE YOU CAN SEE HE MAKES CONTACT WITH SOMEBODY. GEOFF BODINE, I GUESS. NED: GEOFF BODINE, THE SEVEN CAR. DARRELL SPINS UP. THERE THE GASOLINE STARTS COMING OUT OF THE CAR. BOB: THERE’S THE FRONT OF GEOFF’S CAR. SHOWS SIGNS OF HAVING CONTACT WITH DARRELL. NED: ONCE AGAIN, WE’LL SHOW HE ALREADY HIT THE WALL. HE HIT THE WALL UP THERE WHERE IT SAYS FOOD CITY. NOW THE GASOLINE IS COMING OUT OF THE CAR. IT IS AMAZING THE THING, ALL THAT METAL IS DRAGGING ACROSS THE TRACK, DIDN’T PUT UP A SPARK. LUCKILY IT DIDN’T. BOB: YEAH, YOU’RE RIGHT. GASOLINE COMES GUSHING OUT OF THE CAR. NED: IT IS THE REDDISH COLOR. IT WAS GASOLINE. BOB: JERRY IS WITH DARRELL WALTRIP. JERRY: A HARD LICK. ARE YOU OK? >>YEAH. ACTUALLY, I’M IN GOOD SHAPE. GETTING OUT OVER THERE AND WALKING AROUND BEFORE THAT, GOT FRESHENED UP A LITTLE BIT. I KNEW THESE RACE STARTS ARE GOING TO BE TREACHEROUS. PIT ROAD, WHERE YOU COME IN, EVERYBODY GETS DUBLTED UP MUCH IT IS GOING TO BE EXCITING. I GOT INVOLVED IN IT. I WAS HAVING A DECENT RUN. I COULD HAVE HAD A GOOD FINISH. WE’LL GET THEM NEXT WEEK. WE SHOWED PROMISE TODAY. THAT’S MORE THAN WE HAVE BEEN SHOWING. JERRY: SHOWED A LOT OF PROMISE. YOU WERE TRYING TO GET IT RETIRED AND GOING. HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS FUEL POWERING OUT OF THE CAR. >>NO. I HAVE SEEN DRIVERS — AT THEM AT INDY TRYING TO FIRE THEIR CARS UP. I DIDN’T HAVE ANY IDEA IT WAS BUSTED. I KNEW I HIT HARD. I WANTED TO GET BACK IN THE GARAGE AND GET OUT, YOU KNOW, GET STEVIE AND GET WITH THE KIDS AND WE’LL GET — PWHEAS THE NEXT RACE? WILKESBORO. MY FAVORITE RACETRACK. JERRY: OK. LET’S GO UP TO BILL WEBER. BILL: LET’S GO BACK TO THE LAST YELLOW FLAG AFTER THE RED FLAG WHEN THE CARS CAME DOWN PIT ROAD, SOME CONFUSION HERE. AND SOME DISAPOINT BY SOME OF THESE TEAMS. >>YOU KNOW, WHAT WE THOUGHT THAT THEY HAD RUN A COUPLE OF LAPS AND GET EVERYTHING BACK UP TO SPEED AND GET EVERYBODY BACK OUT, WE WERE SETTING ON THE BACKSTRETCH WHENEVER THEY — THE 24 AND THE SIX CAME IN. BUT I GUESS ACCORDING TO NASCAR THEY OPENED THE FIVE CAR OPENED A PIT ROAD EARLIER. YOU KNOW, I’M CONFUSED. BUT I’LL GO WITH THEIR CALL. BILL: YOU HAD TROUBLE GETTING OUT BECAUSE OF THE TRAR. >>THE OTHER CARS PITTED THAT WERE A LAP DOWN. SO I DON’T KNOW, YOU KNOW, NORMALLY THEY START THEM IN THE REAR. I DON’T KNOW UNLESS THEY FIGURE THAT WAS THE SECRETARY TIME BY. BILL: WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THE THREE CAR TRIED TO LEAD THE 28 CAR, PITTED RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM, WAS THERE AND DALE HAD TO GO FORWARD, BACK UP, PULL AROUND THE 28 TO GET OUT. THAT COST HIM A FEW SECONDS, TOO. THEY WEREN’T REAL HAPPY DOWN THERE. EVERYBODY’S CALMED DOWN. THAT LAST SITUATION DOWN HERE WAS NOT VERY PLEASANT. NED: YOU SAW DALE EARNHARDT PULL HIS GOGGLES AWAY FROM HIS HEAD. IF YOU DON’T DO THAT, THEY STEAM UP. YOU TAKE THAT LIKE A DEFROSTER ON THE CAR. BOB: WE’LL TELL YOU WHAT’S GOING ON. DILUTING THE FUEL WITH CAT — WATER. THEY HAVE TO DO THAT BEFORE THEY LIFT THE CAR. THEY PRETTY WELL GOT IT DILUTED NOW. IN JUST A MOMENT THEY WILL BE DRAGGING THE CAR OFF THE RACETRACK. THEN WE’LL DRY UP THE WET SPOT. AND GET BACK TO RACING. BOB: HERE’S DARRELL WALTRIP’S CAR BEING TAKEN BACK IN TO THE INFIELD AREA. A LOT OF DAMAGE. FUEL COMPLETELY OUT OF THE CAR T CLEANUP ON THE MAIN STRAIGHT AWAY IS CONTINUING. NED: STILL LOSING FUEL AS THEY ARE TAKING THE CAR BACK. BURT THAT PIECE ON THE FRONT THAT’S DRAGGING IS FIBER GLASS. THAT WILL KNOW THROW UP SPARKS. BOB: LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT OUR BUSCH RACE RECAP. JEFF GORDON, COMPLETED 335 LAPS. HE HAS LED 141 OF THEM. SEVEN LEAD CHANGES. FIVE CAUTION PERIODS FOR 31 LAPS. THE AVERAGE SPEED, 76. THERE ARE THE DRIVERS WHO HAVE LED A LAP AND PICKED UP THE FIVE BONUS POINTS. BOBBY LABONTE LED TWO LAPS. LET’S SHOW YOU THE DRIVERS THAT ARE OUT OF THE RACE. ONLY THREE OFFICIALLY. ELTON SAWYER, MIKE SKINNER, AND MOST RECENTLY DARRELL WALTRIP. JERRY IS WITH GARY DIEHART. JERRY: THE RED FLAG COMES OUT. DO YOU GUYS — ALREADY PITTED FOR FOUR TIRES. YOU WOULD EXPECT WHEN THE CAUTION COMES BACK OUT YOU WOULD BE THE LEADER BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE WOULD PIT. IT DIDN’T HAPPEN THAT WAY. >>YEAH. WHAT HAPPENED WAS WH THEY TURNED THE CARS LOOSE ON PIT ROW OR THE TRACK. THE LEADERS KIND OF WENT AHEAD AND STARTED RUNNING PRETTY HARD. AND THE PACE CAR WAS MISSING, TOO. WHEN WE FINALLY GOT AROUND HERE, THE LEAD CAR WAS ALREADY PITTED. NASCAR SAID THAT’S WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. I GUESS THAT’S WHERE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE. JERRY: IN OTHER WORDS, IF EVERYONE HAD GOTTEN GOING IN THE SAME — AT THE SAME TIME, PROBABLY THE FIVE CAR WOULD HAVE PASSED EVERYBODY THAT PITTED. THE CAR IS STILL GETTING CRANKED UP BACK THERE AND YOU GUYS HAD TO FALL IN LINE BEHIND GUYS THAT FRESHLY PITTED. >>IT WAS CONFUSING, BECAUSE THE LEADERS, THEY CHOSE NOT TO PIT EARLIER. AND WE DID PIT. WE DIDN’T GET CAUGHT WITH THAT RED FLAG THING. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COME BACK OUT WHEN THE PIT WAS THROUGH, WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE LEADER. BUT IT ALSO — OPENED THE DOOR FOR THE LAP DOWN TRAFFIC TO PIT THE FIRST LAP, TOO. REALLY EVERYBODY WAS OUT ON THE RACETRACK RUNNING AROUND AND NO ONE KNEW WHERE THEY NEEDED TO BE. I GUESS WE JUST ENDED UP WHERE WE NEEDED TO BE OR WHERE WE ENDED UP. JERRY: THAT’S THIRD SPOT. THAT’S NOT BAD. YOU ARE SECOND NOW ANYWAY. >>YEAH. THAT’S PRETTY GOOD FROM WHAT WE WERE LOOKING LIKE EARLIER. ALMOST A LAP DOWN. AND THEN WE GOT THE RAIN SHOWER AND CALLED US UP. WE WERE TIGHT THAT TIME. THE CAR SHOULD BE A LITTLE BETTER NOW. JERRY: ALL RIGHT. A LITTLE SMILE OUT OF GARY DEHART. THEY GOT A BREAK PRIOR TO THE RED COMING OUT. NASCAR BEING FAIR, ENDED UP PUTTING THEM BACK IN THIRD SPOT WHEN WE GOT READY TO RESTART. LET’S GO TO BILL WEBER. BILL: GOT YOUR LAP BACK. >>HOW ABOUT THAT. HOW ABOUT THAT, JARRETT. BILL: HE’S HAVING A GOOD DAY OUT THERE. WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THE CAR? ■>>FREED IT UP A LITTLE BIT. NOW THAT WE GOT OUR LAP BACK WE’RE GOING TO COME IN AND PUT ON FOUR MORE TIRES AND — BILL: GOT NOTHING TO LOSE NOW?>>GOT NOTHING TO LOSE NOW. IN CASE HE RAN THROUGH DEBRIS GOING TO COME IN AND GET FOUR MORE TIRES AND HOPEFULLY DRIVE IT TO THE FRONT. BILL: NO MORE RAIN? >>NO MORE RAIN. NOW WE GOT OUR LAP BACK. BILL: DALE JARRETT COMING TO THE FRONT YOU HEARD IT HERE LIVE ON ESPN. BOB: CLEANUP IS STILL GOING ON. AND LOOK AT THIS. HE’S — BENNY: HE’S BEATING A HASTY RETREAT, ISN’T HE? BOB: HE IS OUT OF HERE. BENNY: UH-OH, HOW AM I GOING TO GET OVER THIS THING. WHERE ARE THE STEPS? WHERE ARE THE STEPS? THEY’RE GOING TO OPEN GATE FOR DARRELL. BOB: AIN’T THAT NICE. BENNY: VERY NICE. NED: DARRELL COULD DO IT. BOB: WE TALKED ABOUT HOW DARRELL IS THE TOP PERFORMER HERE AT BRISTOL IN THE MODERN ERA WITH 42 RACES AN AVERAGE FINISH OF 7.4, YOU KNOW WHO THE GUY IS THAT’S SECOND ON THAT LIST AS DARRELL GETS A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE. WHO IS THE SECOND TOP PERFORMER HERE AT BRISTOL IN THE MODERN ERA? NOT NECESSARILY AN ACTIVE DRIVER. B.P. DID YOU KNOW THAT? 7.5 WAS YOUR AVERAGE FINISH IN 28 RACES HERE AT BRISTOL. THAT’S GOOD. BENNY: REALLY? WOW, I’M IMPRESSED. BOB: FOR THAT, BENNY, YOU WIN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. BENNY: THAT’S WHAT I FIGURED, ABOUT WHAT I WON FOR THAT 7.5. BOB: STILL A LOT OF CLOUDS OVER THERE BEHIND THE MOUNTAIN, BUT IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE IT’S GOING TO RAIN ANYMORE. BOB: WE HAVE THE JET DRIER AT THE TROUBLE SPOT HERE ON THE MAIN STRAIGHTAWAY, DRYING THE AREA, SHOULDN’T TAKE THAT THING TOO LONG TO GET THAT MOISTURE UP OUT OF THE RACETRACK. WE’LL BE BACK TO COMPETITION ONCE AGAIN. WE HAD A LITTLE BIT OF A CONTROVERSY DOWN ON PIT ROAD A WHILE AGO REGARDING STERLING MARLIN. DOC, WHAT’S THE LATEST? JERRY: THE JET DRIER ISN’T AS HOT AS THESE GUYS WERE. I’M WITH LARRY MCLURE, NASCAR HAD LOOKED AT THE TAPE AND IS TRYING TO CORRECT THAT SITUATION? >>I HOPE SO. WE DIDN’T THINK WE’D DONE ANYTHING WRONG. WE DIDN’T PIT THE FIRST TIME BY THEY TOLD US NOT TO, THAT WE COULDN’T. SO A COUPLE OF MISTAKES MADE AND IT COST US, QUITE A BIT■■ BECAUSE WE FELT LIKE WE COULD GET OUR LAP BACK, ABOUT THE FASTEST CAR ON THE RACETRACK. I’M SURE THEY’LL DO THE RIGHT THING. JERRY: TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH A FAMILY THIS WAS THERE WERE CREW CHIEFS WHO CAME UP AND TOLD THE NASCAR OFFICIAL, STEVE MEAL CAME UP AND TOLD US THE FOUR CAR WASN’T OVER THE LINE HE HAD THE RIGHT-SIDE TIRES ON THE LINE BECAUSE OF SOME FUEL BACK THERE. >>I THINK ALL OF US, THERE WAS FUEL BACK THERE, I THINK ALL OF US WORKED TOGETHER AND RACED TOGETHER EACH WEEK, DOUGH WON’T WE DON’T WANT TO TAKE ANYTHING FROM THE OTHER PEOPLE, STEVE WAS LOOKING OUT FOR US, WANTED THE RIGHT THING TO BE DONE, SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO STEVE, WE WANT THE SAME THING. THEY’LL DO THE RIGHT THING. JERRY: LARRY MCLURE, A FORD TEAM AND FORD CREW CHIEF HELPING A CHEVROLET TEAM TRYING TO DO WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS RIGHT BY HELPING THE NASCAR OFFICIAL. BOB: THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED JUST A FEW MINUTES AGO WHEN LARRY AND TONY WERE A LITTLE UNHAPPY WITH THE CALL THAT WAS MADE FROM THE NASCAR OFFICIALS. BENNY: NASCAR OFFICIAL SAID “LOOK THAT CALL WAS MADE UPSTAIRS, I DIDN’T MAKE THAT CALL.” TONY, WHO CAN ARGUE WITH HIM. OK, I’LL GO OVER AND TALK TO THIS GUY. BOB: SOME GOOD EMOTION THERE, TONY. NED: HE IS A COMPETITOR. CAN’T BLAME HIM. BOB: YEP. BENNY: THE CREW IS ALL LAUGHING WATCHING TONY AND LAUGHING. BOB: TURN AROUND AND WAVE TO US, GUYS. THERE WE ARE! ALL RIGHT. THE CONVERSATION IS CONTINUING, THIS THING HASN’T BEEN COMPLETELY RESOLVED, BUT OUR KODAK MOMENT CONTINUES. BENNY: YES. BOB: ALL RIGHT, WE’LL KEEP OUR EAR TO THE GROUND HERE AND DETERMINE WHAT HAPPENS AND REPORT TO YOU WHAT THE FINAL DECISION IN JUST A MOMENT. STNR GETTING FRESH TIRES ON THE LEFT SIDE. HE WAS ALLOWED TO MAKE UP THE LAPS. ONLY TWO LAPS DOWN. DALE JARRETT HAS BEEN IN TWICE. I THINK HE HAS ALL FOUR NEW NOW. NED: HE CHANGED TWO THE OTHER TIME. HE WAS AT THE TAIL END OF THE WHOLE FIELD. COULD ONLY CHANGE TWO TIRES AT A TIME. HE NOW HAS FOUR FRESH ONES. BOB: BEFORE THAT RUSTY WALLACE AND DALE EARNHARDT CAME ON TO PIT ROAD TO GET TOPPED OFF. DOESN’T TAKE LONG TO GET THE CARS TOPPED OFF. NED: RUSTY’S CAR ON THE LEFT SIDE TO GET INTO ERY BIT OF FUEL IT CAN. PEMBERTON SAID THEY COULD BE SIX LAPS SHORT. BY THERE’S THE FIRST TIME DALE JARRETT CAME IN TO GET RIGHT SIDE TIRES. THEY DON’T WANT TO CHANGE ALL FOUR AT ONCE BECAUSE YOU CAN LOSE A LAP THAT WAY. FOUR FRESH TIRES. THERE’S GEOFF BODINE GOING OUT OF THE BACKSTRETCH PITS. JUST AHEAD OF THE PACE CAR. AND NOW WE ARE SET TO GO BACK TO RACING. NED: GEOFF BODINE IS IN 19TH POSITION. TWO LAPS DOWN. BOB: THE PACE CAR CONTINUES TO CIRCLE THE RACETRACK WITH THE CAUTION LIGHT ON. NOIP STERLING MARLIN, WE TALKED ABOUT NASCAR GIVING STERLING MARLIN THE LAP BACK. THEY DID GIVE HIM A LAP BACK. BOB: THE CREWS MOVE OUT TO COVER UP THE RESPECTTIVE PIT AREAS TO KEEP THEM DRY. WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET A GREEN FLAG HERE VERY SOON. NED: NO, WE WON’T. BOB: WE WILL LOOK AT A FIELD SUMMARY TO SHOW YOU WHERE ALL THE DRIVERS ARE RUNNING. NED: DOLE FORD TALKING TO THE NASCAR OFFICIALS. EF EVIDENTLY HE UNDERSTANDS WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. AT DARLINGTON DOLE DROPPED A GREEN START AT THE RESTART. HE DROPPED A GREEN FLAG ON ONE OF THE RESTARTS. THIS WEEK HE TOOK A RUBBERBAND AND TIED IT AROUND THAT SO HE COULD PUT IT AROUND HIS HAND SO IT WOULDN’T HAPPEN AGAIN. I WON’T BRING IT UP AGAIN. THAT’S THE LAST TIME I WILL MENTION IT. BENNY: NOW THAT THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS IT. BOB: THERE IS THE RED ONCE AGAIN. NED: BEAUTIFULLY WAVING THAT RED FLAG. WHAT A JOB YOU ARE DOING. GOT TO DO SOMETHING TO GET BACK IN THE GOOD GRACES OF DOLE. BOB: NOT A GOOD SIGHT. BILL? BILL: ACCORDING TO THE RADAR, IT IS NOT RAINING HERE. WE CAN GO AHEAD AND GO. RIGHT HERE ON THE NASCAR RADAR IF YOU LOOK WHERE BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY IS, IT IS CLEAR. IT IS NOT RAINING. SEE ALL THIS STUFF? THAT’S RAIN. YOU KNOW WHERE IT IS COMEING? RIGHT HERE. HERE’S THE RACE WAY. IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY, YOU CAN SEE THE AIRPORT. THAT’S WHERE MY PLANE LEAVES WITHOUT ME. IT IS RAINING HERE NOW. THIS STUFF IS COMING. WE ARE GOING TO REALLY HAVE TO PLAY SOME DODGE BALL HERE TO GET THE REST OF THESE LAPS IN. CROSS OUR FINGERS AND HOPEFULLY WE WILL. BOB: IN ABOUT THREE HOURS, LOOKS LIKE IT IS GOING TO BE NICE. >>ARE YOU GOING TO HANG AROUND? BOB: SURE. THE LIGHTS ARE ON, BY THE WAY. BILL: WE HAVE A PREVIEW OF THE FALL NIGHT RACE HERE AT BRISTOL HERE MAYBE TODAY. IT WILL BE DRY. WE WILL KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED. BOB: WE’LL BE HERE. BENNY: I’M NOT GOING ANYPLACE. I WANT SEE SEE THE LAST OF THESE LAST FEW LAPS. 150 LAPS. BOB: EVERY ONE OF THESE CARS HAVE DEMONSTRATED THEIR ABILITY TO LEAD AND POSSIBLY WIN THIS RACE. IT’S GOING TO BE GOOD WHEN THE THING RESUMES. T■E JET DRIER IS BACK OUT. WE HAVE SEEN IT DEMONSTRATED EARLIER TODAY THAT IT DOESN’T TAKE LONG TO DRY THE TRACK WHEN IT STOPS RAINING AND THAT DRIER GETS OUT THERE. SO IF IT WOULD JUST STOP RAINING AND GIVE US ABOUT 45 MINUTES OR AN HOUR, WE CAN GET THIS THING IN THE BOOKS. ■ BOB: THE ANNOUNCEMENT HAS JUST BEEN MADE. THE RACE HAS BEEN CALLED AT THIS POINT. AT THE CONCLUSION OF 343 LAPS. AND JEFF GORDON IS THE WINNER. AND LOOK AT HIS INCREDIBLE CLIMB IN THE POINTS. 42ND IN POINTS AFTER DAYTONA, 43RD AFTER ROCKINGHAM. THEN AT RICHMOND. 1. DWs crash at 1:45:00. He had some angels lookin over him cuz there is absolutely no reason why that fuel & DWs car didn't catch fire & become an AMAZING inferno. It literally was a miracle! Between the hot exhaust & other blazing hot parts & the sheetmetal dragging all the way down the straightaway. I DO NOT understand how there was no fire & the directed took forever to even get there & they had to red flag it cuz it took them over 10mins just to clean all that fuel up there was so much! Unreal

  2. This is the Bristol Motor Speedway I miss. Three-wide racing with the preferred groove next to the wall and Bristol should not be a thing. I don't care if they keep spraying the PJ1/TrackBite on the bottom, the groove works its' way higher as the race goes on. I want to see the fact that you have to run the bottom to pass and improve your position, and if you go up the track you get freight-trained losing precious positions. If they had the money, I would reconfigure the turns back to a uniform 36-degrees and narrow the width.

  3. ESPN switched to tennis during the rain delay, and I was MAD! Then when one of the tennis players withdrew, I was really HAPPY!
