BASIC KNOTS || Friendship Bracelets

Hi everyone! My name is Masha Knots
and I want to talk about knots. Knots in friendship bracelets
are made on two or more threads. This is why I have
two threads in front of me. Each knot consists of
two halves. If we make only one half it will untie itself. That’s why knots should always be finished (two halves). There are four main types of knots in friendship bracelets. Usually these pictures are used in patterns to show what type of knot it is. Let’s look at the first one.
In English this knot is called a “forward knot”. But there is no universal name for it or for the other knots in Russian. There are many options out of which I prefer the name “knot to the right” That’s what I’ll call it.
To make it we take the left thread and put it onto the index finger of our left hand. Then we take the end of this thread in our case it is the main thread we put it onto the right thread. At this point I find it comfortable to hold the right thread with my left hand pinkie so that it doesn’t slip or get in the way. Look, we have made a shape which looks like the number 4. Next we take the index finger of our right hand put it into the formed loop put it under the red (right) thread and we take the end of the main in our case left string we twist it and we pull it out. Look, the blue string wrapped the red string. Next we let go of the blue string and we tie the knot. This is how we knot half of the forward knot. In order to make the other half we have to repeat the whole process. We put the blue knot onto our left index finger the number 4 is made. Take the right index finger put it into the formed loop put it under grab the string with our nail twist it and pull it out ant then tie it. Now we have made a whole forward knot. Let’s see how to make this knot again. Take the left index finger put the string onto it put the end of the left string onto the right one we see the 4. Take the right index finger put it into the formed loop, put it under the red thread, take the blue one, twist and tie. Half of the knot is done. For the knot to be complete we need to make the other half. Take the left index finger put the string onto it, the 4 is formed. Take the right index finger put it into the formed loop put it under the red thread
take the blue one twist and tie. Now I’ll tie the forward knot quickly. As you can see the forward knot moves the main (blue) thread from the left to the right while making a knot of its colour. The next knot. In patterns in usually looks like this. In English it is called the backward knot. In Russian Ilike the name “knot to the left”. It’s a mirror image of the forward knot. The main thread in this case is the one on the right and we are moving it to the left. Put it onto the right index finger Put the bottom part onto the blue thread. We have made a mirrored 4. Once again I like to tighten the non-main thread with my pinkie in our case it is the blue one. I hold it like this so that it tightens and doesn’t get in the way. See the mirrored 4. Next we take the left index finger put it into the formed loop put it under the blue thread like this and take the red one with our nail. Twist it and as you can see we just wrapped it around the blue thread. Pull it out, let go pull it out tie it. Half of the knot is ready. Put the red thread onto the right index finger. Put this part onto the blue one and we can see the mirrored 4. Take the index finger put it into the loop put it under the blue thread take the red one, twist and tie. Our knot is done. Let’s see how to make the backward knot again. This time a little faster. Take the right thread take the index finger put the thread onto it put this part onto the blue thread. Take the thread into the pinkie then we take the left index finger put it into the formed loop put it under the thread take the ref one, twist and tie. This is one half. Next we once again put it onto the index finger then onto the thread into the loop, under, over, twist, pull and tie. The knot is ready. And now I’ll make it quickly. The third knot is usually shown like this. In English it’s called the forward-backward knot. In Russian I prefer the name “Knot to the right and back”. The first half of it is made the same as the first half of the forward knot. The second half of this knot is made just like the first half of the backward knot. The first half is the forward knot so the main thread is this one. Take the thread into the pinkie to secure it, put the main thread onto the index finger, we made the 4. Take the finger put it into the loop under, over, twist and tie. The second half if the backward knot. Because the blue thread moved to the right it is now the one on the right (the main). Take the red thread into the pinkie. Put the blue thread onto the index finger. We see the mirrored 4. Take this finger into, over, under, twist, pull out and tie. The forward-backward knot is done. Let me show this again. First we make half of the forward knot. Hold with the pinkie. Make a 4. Take the index finger into, under, over, twist and tie. Next put the thread into the other pinkie. Put the blue thread onto the index finger. Mirrored 4. Take the index finger into, under, over twist and tie. Let me show you once more quickly. The last, fourth knot is usually shown like this. Its English name is backward-forward knot. I think the best Russian name for it is “Knot to the right and back”. This knot is a mirrored image of the forward-backward knot. The first half of it is the same as the first half of the backward knot. The second half is the same as the first half of the forward knot. I’ll remind you how to make them. First comes the half of the backward knot. Take the left string. In this knot it will be the main thread. Take the other one into your pinkie to tighten it. Put the thread onto your finger. See the mirrored 4. Take the left index finger put it into the loop into, under over twist and tie. The second half is the same as the first half of the forward knot. Take the blue thread with the other pinkie. Next we put the thread onto the left index finger. We form a 4. Take the right index finger put it into the loop then under, over, pull out and tie. The knot is ready. Once more, a bit faster. The first half is the same as the first half of the backward knot. Hold with pinkie. Make the mirrored 4 Index finger into, under, over, twist pull out and tie. Next is the first half of the forward knot. Make the 4. Index finger into, under, over, twist, pull out and tie. Once again but faster. Using this knot we make a knot with the right thread and do not move it anywhere. If you enjoyed this video

  2. Здравствуйте Маша) скажите пожалуйста, это единственное видио на русском языке? Вы так здорово доступно рассказываете! Так хочется видио на русском)

  3. 3:38 I love when I'm speaking french and there's something in english in the same sentence and it sounds exactly like this lol

  4. So basically,

    forward knot: triangle part of 4 to the left

    backward knot: triangle part of 4 to the right

    forward-backward knot: mix of forward and backward knots; forward being first

    backward-forward knot: mix of forward and backward knots; backward being first

  5. I am loving your videos….however, for the ones that i need i have no way to slow the speed down so that i can read and look at the video to see what you are doing gracefully. Being as you have speeded up the video in editing to get as much in as possible for those of us who want to learn how to do these beUtiful bracelets. I would never ask you to redo them in spoken english. However, i will ask if you can recommend someone who speaks in english in videos when i need just a bit more help. You are my first choice, but its a bit much to watch and pause, or to watch 4 or 5 times just to get through and successfully make a simple normal bracelet. Thank you. Once i can master the basics i hope to join patreon for your videos.
