Can I Use Xbox Gift Card to Buy Xbox Live Gold?

Recently someone asked if it was possible
to buy an Xbox Live Gold subscription online with an Xbox Gift Card. So in this video, I’ll explain what you can
and cannot purchase with an Xbox Gift Card. Your Xbox Gift Card works just like money
on the Xbox online store and the 25-digit code can be redeemed on your console or at
Xbox.com. In addition, a Windows Gift Card works exactly
the same as an Xbox Gift Card. Once you redeem your gift card, you can use
it to buy games, movies, TV show, music and apps from any Microsoft online store, Windows
online store or Windows Phone store. But there are some limitations to what you
can buy. First off, your Xbox or Windows Gift Card
cannot be used to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Microsoft just doesn’t allow that. To buy Xbox Live Gold, you need to use a credit
or debit card from your console or at one of the online Microsoft stores. As an alternative, you can buy a physical
Gold card at a retailer. If you are on an Xbox One, you can’t use your
Xbox or Windows Gift Card to purchase Xbox 360 games or any other 360 digital content
from your Xbox One. Another thing you can’t do with your gift
card is buy physical products from the Microsoft online store. This means you can’t use your gift card balance
to buy items like laptops, game controllers, phones, tablets and other products. So if you were given an Xbox or Windows Gift
Card, you will not be able to use it to buy Xbox Live Gold. Instead, you need to get the actual Xbox Live
Gold card or Gold prepaid code. Gold subscriptions come in one, three or twelve
month subscriptions and you cannot use an Xbox Live Gold card to buy anything else except
a Gold subscription. I hope this clears up some of the questions
regarding Xbox gift cards. If you found this video helpful, please give

  1. Guys there is a way to use the gift card but the best way is to purchase the gift card from amazon once you do that go to where it usually sends you to get Xbox live and press enter code then put the code in. once done correctly it will say you have received $10 to your profile (or whatever the card was worth) then click on which Xbox live plan you want to purchase and it will have something on the top that will have whatever the worth of your card was saying this will be the first thing they use to purchase It. You will need a backup plan like a credit card just in case you don't have enough to purchsase it. Once You do all that you are good to go

  4. The fuck I got a free 14 day trial for Xbox live but I didn’t want to use it cause I’ll have to subscribe. Was thinking of getting a gift card thinking it was different but no, basically the same shit. I wish there was a way where you pay for a certain time using the gift card, and it stops; you can’t play online anymore and you’ll have to redeem another gift card. I just don’t want use credit/debit card.

  8. Pretty much this entire video has been made null and void by new updates and such to the Xbox store, and seeing as this is the first result on google to this issue I’d say you might wanna remove it from YouTube to avoid giving false information, or at least put a disclaimer in the title if the revenue is too worth it

  9. Assholes. They just want your credit card so they continually charge on it and conveniently hide from your desperate attempts to cancel.

  10. ok for new person like me it took me a while but there is a way you can do it now you go to the microsoft website not the xbox site and you search for the gold membership and buy it there using payment method money on account, if that doesn't work remove other payment methods that may be used before it and it will 100% use the money on your account/gift card money

  11. Me thinking I was gonna be slick and buy this for the 1$ 1 month Xbox live and 1$ 3 month game pass lmao

  13. Hey Gamers!
If you buy an Xbox prepaid card and you cannot get Xbox gold because you need a credit card, redeem your card and then go to play an online game once you try to play it a few times it should push through the payment!

  14. What the fuck, I googled it before I bought it, and it said "Yes, you can buy Xbox Live Goldsubscriptions and Xbox Game Pass with a gift card" and now I cant? Tf

  15. You can because once you redeem, the money goes to your account. Then when you want to buy gold you can.

  16. Xbox live is on sale for $40 for a year and my account has $64.40 on my account and it doesn't let me buy it. Do I need more money for it?

1.redeem gift card with your xbox

2.get a phone and go to Microsoft.com and sign in to your account that you use on xbox

3.you should have that money in your account so you have to press that little shopping cart on the top when your in microsoft.com and search xbox live

4.once you have found it you can buy it , its either going to give you xbox live directly or it gives you the code to reedeem

  20. Sooo, you’re telling me that i just wasted $25 on a gift card and now you’re gonna ask for a credit card. Man microsoft out here scamming the fuck out of people

  21. My card has 24 digits not 25. It’s a gold 3 month from Walmart. Did I get scammed?(edit: it was in fact missing a code letter. We tried them all till one letter worked. I was so worried I’d been scammed my wifey had to figure it out for me 🙂 )

  22. I'm pretty sure I've subscribed to a month with a gift card you just have to have enough on there to cover the next subscription fee. Ex: redeem a $25 card. Subscribed to the 1 month $9.99 the left over balance covers the next subscription fee and should work. Then you can spend that money after you've obtained the xbox live.

  23. Guys i just need one answer.i want to buy minecraft win 10 edition and it says xbox live above the name…can i buy just a simple no live physical card and buy minecraft and still be able to play with freinds

  24. Hi, I guess this changed because it is clearly stated on xbox website you can. You should update your video because it's kind of the first result on google and it leads to a wrong answer.
