ATTORNEYS FOR THE SUSPECT IN THE JOSEPH DEANGELO IN THE EAST AREA RAPIST CRIMES WANT THE DOCUMENTS SEALED TO PROTECT HIS RIGHTS TO A FAIR TRIAL. SEVERAL NEWS ORGANIZATIONS HAVE FILED. THEY’VE PROVIDED INFORMATION ABOUT THE DNA TECHNIQUES THAT PROSECUTORS USE TO IDENTIFY HIM. LAW ENFORCEMENT USE DECADES OLD DNA AND GENEALOGY SITE TO CATCH DEANGELO AFTER THE CASE HAD GONE COLD. HE WAS ARRESTED LAST MONTH AND IDENTIFIED IN THE SUSPECT IN AT LEAST A DOZEN MURDERS AND MORE THAN 50 RAPES BETWEEN 1976 AND 1986 KNOWN AS GOLDEN STATE KILLER, EAST AREA RAPIST AND MORE.
