American Ghost Towns. Kennecott, Alaska. Kennecott ia an abandoned copper mining town in the valdez – cordova area in the U.S state of Alaska. Kennecott hade five mines, Bonanza, Jumbo, Mother Lode, Erie and Glacier. In the 1980s, Kennecott became a popular tourist destination, as people came to see the old mines and buildings. Visitors and nearby residents have stripped many of the small items and artifacts. The last train left Kennecott on November 10th, 1938, leaving it a Ghost Town.   2. i was just researching this place for a haunted list. I really got confused when researching the Alaska Syndicate and the Kennecott Copper Cooperation. Still this town is a pretty spooky place, still not sure if it's haunted but I love the idea that at it's high point it's census was 496 people and that plunged down to nearly zero after 38. I would love to visit this place one day.
