Most mines are compliant and they try to be
compliant, although there are normally some deficiencies in any systems and I guess it’s our job to come along and just identify those systems with a fresh set of eyes and head them towards compliance. That allows us to remove people from the workplace in the loaders so they’re not exposed to the dust, the vibration or the noise so that we can now have our people come to work every day, enjoy their work and go home knowing that they’ve contributed but they’re healthy and safe. As inspectors we have a range of powers under the legislation where we can issue different types of notices. A serious risk then we prohibit the activity or their use of the equipment. We all know that mining can be a very dangerous profession to be in, so what’s incredibly important is that we have the highest possible standards of workplace safety to protect our miners.
