Top 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Luka Doncic! (NBA)

Dallas Mavericks guard/small forward Luka
Doncic was selected third overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. EverythingTop10 is proud to present, “The
Top 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Luka Doncic!” #10. Doncic was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, to
Mirjam Poterbin, owner of beauty salons, and Sasa Doncic, a basketball coach and former
basketball player. His mother was a dancer and a competitive
hurdler. His mother is Slovenian and his father is
of Serbian descent, with his family originating from Klina, SR Serbia (nowadays in Kosovo)
before they moved to SR Slovenia. His parents filed for divorce in 2008, with
custody and legal guardianship being granted to his mother. #9. According to his family, he first touched
a basketball when he was seven months old, and by age one, he was frequently playing
with a miniature hoop that his parents put in his room. He played a variety of sports in his childhood,
including soccer, which he later quit after growing too tall. At age seven, he began playing organized basketball
at primary school in Ljubljana. His opponents at the time were up to 10 years
old. He admired Greek professional basketball player
Vassilis Spanoulis from his early teenage years, stating he was “enchanted” by him. He wore the number 7 at Real Madrid in honor
of Spanoulis. #8. When Doncic was eight, his father started
playing for his hometown club Union Olimpija, and Olimpija Basketball School coach Grega
Brezovec invited Luka to practice with players of his age. But only 16 minutes into his first training
session, the coaching staff moved him up to the 11-year-old group. Starting in the next session, he primarily
practiced with Olimpija’s under-14 team, but due to legal rules, he only played for
the club’s under-12 selection team, coming off the bench against opponents three or four
years older than him. Despite his exclusion from under-14 games
at the time, he often asked to attend practice, even when his coach asked him to stay home. #7. In September 2012, at 13 years old, he signed
a five-year contract with Real Madrid, immediately standing out on the under-16 team with coach
Paco Redondo. He moved to Madrid, living with soccer and
basketball prospects, and he had to learn to speak Spanish. At 16 years, 2 months, and 2 days of age,
he became the youngest player to ever play for Real Madrid in the ACB and the third-youngest
debutant in league history, behind only Ricky Rubio and Angel Rebolo. In the 2017-2018 season for Real Madrid, he
earned the ACB Best Young Player and MVP accolades, after helping his team defeat Kirolbet Baskonia
in the league finals. On June 29, 2018, he parted ways with Real
Madrid. #6. On September 22, 2016, Doncic announced that
he would represent the senior men’s Slovenian national team for the rest of his career. He had previously been linked with a number
of other national teams, including Serbia and Spain. His national team roommate was Goran Dragic,
who he met at age seven and has been cited as his mentor and friend. #5. In a 111-99 loss to the Pacers, he was ejected
from the game. He picked up a technical foul at the end of
the first half and was awarded another technical for kicking the basketball into the stands. He explained that he tried to flick the ball
up to himself and was unaware that his act would result in an ejection. He said that he was just trying to play soccer
and did not try to kick the ball into the stands. He also said, “For sure, I didn’t know
the rule if you go [and kick the ball] to the stands you are ejected.” The rules are different in Europe and he jokingly
said that he had to work on his soccer skills. #4. Doncic has compared himself to Ben Simmons
due to his versatility. His godfather is former NBA player Radoslav
Nesterovic. Doncic is a fan of the Crvena zvezda basketball
club. He can speak four languages: Slovenian, English,
Spanish, and Serbian. #3. He has the Latin phrase “non desistas, non
exieris” (never give up, never surrender), his jersey number 7 that he wore for Real
Madrid, and the image of a tiger tattooed on his left forearm. He also got a tattoo of the EuroBasket 2017
cup on his right hip after helping Slovenia win the competition. He owns a Pomeranian dog named Hugo. #2. Doncic’s favorite NBA player is LeBron James. His other favorite NBA players include Kevin
Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Ben Simmons. Some of his nicknames are “Wonder Boy”,
“The Don”, and “Swaggy LD.” He spends two to three hours a day playing
video games like “FIFA” and “Overwatch.” #1. He dated Anamaria Goltes, a model from Zagorje
ob Savi. She is a former kickboxer and dancer who once
competed in many World and European Championships. Anamaria and Luka started dating in 2016,
but they are allegedly no longer together. On the night that he got drafted into the
NBA, photos of his mother began to go viral on the internet because of her looks. His mother is a former model, and she currently
has over 34,000 followers on Instagram. That’s all folks! Please leave a like if you enjoyed the video
